Highlighted by an outstanding two-year-old session, the inaugural Inglis Australian Racehorse Sale was hailed a great success, following receipts of almost $3million at Oaklands.
In all, 135 horses sold for a gross of $2,882,000 at a clearance rate of 94%.
The 2YO session brought a gross of $1,124,500 at an average of $41,648 and 94% clearance.
Gerry Ryan's Limerick Lane, who had enjoyed a wonderful spring carnival thanks to their outstanding multiple stakes winning filly Avenue, secured the sale's top priced lot when going to $280,000 for the well related Redoute's Choice-Bella Sunday filly.
The filly is from the wonderful Easy Date family, which boasts Group 1 winners like Forensics, Rewaaya and the outstanding sire Snippets.
The sale's second highest priced lot went to leading Singapore trainer Don Baertschiger, who purchased the Shamardal-Vee For Victory colt for $130,000.
The Shamardal colt was offered by Shipton Lodge, who had six horses make $50,000 or more among a very successful dispersal.
The strength of the buying bench was highlighted by the fact that buyers came from every state in Australia, in addition to New Zealand and Asia.
Technology played a huge part in the outcome of the sale, with 40% of the lots offered attracting an online bid, which followed 45,000 viewings of lots on Inglis TV prior to the sale.
"We put a lot of thought and consultation into the format and timing of this sale and then worked hard to offer a comprehensive selection service for the buyers, so it's rewarding to see the results achieved," Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.
"There was excellent interest in the sale's catalogue as the Inglis TV viewings demonstrated, but it's fair to say given the economic climate that the outcome exceeded our expectations.
"The competition for the younger stock was astounding, as evidenced by a 94% clearance.
"The Shipton Lodge dispersal was a great success and we look forward to marketing their yearlings and mares at our 2010 sales."
Webster said the results show that this new format has an important role to play on the annual sales calendar and expects it to continue to build in profile.
"Given the strong demand in Asia and the platform we have to build on from here, we anticipate a very good catalogue to present for next year," he said.
"The supplementary catalogue provided the sale topper and a clearance rate of 100%, which shows that with modern technology it's never too late to enter an Inglis sale."
