Record breaking filly Igugu last night had her name etched into the history books when crowned South African Horse Of The Year for season 2010/11 at the country’s Equus Awards in Johannesburg.

At Turffontein in South Africa on Saturday, Australian bred filly Igugu (3f Galileo x Zarinia, by Intikhab) made a once act affair of the Group II SA Oaks over 2450 metres, claiming the third leg of the Triple Tiara by a dominant five and three-quarter lengths.

Aussie bred Rocket Man was not the only Australian thoroughbred strutting his stuff on the world stage over the weekend with major successes in South Africa for star three year-old filly Igugu.

Australian bred Galileo (IRE) filly Igugu beat older mares to win the Group Three Joburg Spring Filly and Mare Challenge at Turffontein in South Africa on Saturday.
