Gai Waterhouse saddled the favourite Nostariel to take out the Cottontail Wines Inglis Bonus 2YO Handicap today on the first day of the Wagga Wagga Gold Cup Racing Carnival.
The daughter of Snitzel was one of ten runners nominated for the Inglis Race Series, which entitled her to the $50,000 Inglis Bonus in addition to the prize money for the race.
Bred by Susan Woodcock, Nostariel (Snitzel x Angel Smoke) was a $100,000 purchase at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Meredith Park for Round Table Racing and her trainer, and now races for Alan Galbraith.
Following a close third after drawing wide in her first start at Kembla Grange earlier in the month, there was plenty of confidence in the filly from the stable.
“She’s a very promising filly with a lot of upside, and with the Inglis bonus on offer at Wagga it was a hard race to ignore,” said Waterhouse’s racing manager Adrian Bott.
“It’s a great race series, we targeted the race with this filly and we are confident there is plenty more to come from her,” Bott said.
This is the fifth consecutive year that the Inglis Bonus has been run and won at Wagga Wagga, with Nostariel following fellow winners Sure And Fast, Chosen Song, Elkaydee and Hendricus to score the extra $50,000 for their connections.
