In a thrilling finish, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Serene Majesty edged out Gerald Ryan’s favoured Spill The Beans to win the $400,000 RL Inglis Guineas over 1400m at Scone Race Club’s stand-alone Saturday meeting.
Following placings in the Hawkesbury Guineas and Listed ATC South Pacific Classic, Serene Majesty (Fastnet Rock x Custard) showed real tenacity, drawing wide around the field to join the leader and hold on past the post for her owners, many of which were also involved in the great Black Caviar.
Neil Werrrett, Gary and Kerrin Wilkie, Pam Hawkes, Mr B R Hawkes, Colin and Jannene Madden, Dr E K Attebo, Mr A K Cree, Dr A L Attebo, Mr K A G Attebo, Mrs J V Allan, Mr A D Allan, Mr B P Bradley and Mrs A L Bradley, enjoyed the ride that Black Cavair afforded them and through the exciting Inglis Guineas victor they have a filly with great potential, as attested to by jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
“She likes a bit of room, it was a nice race for her and she rolled along nicely so we were able to come in with a good run,” McEvoy said.
A win in today’s race has put the filly in some prestigious company, joining previous Inglis Guineas winners Cosmic Endeavour and Sincero. Both graduates went on to Group 1 glory at the Brisbane Winter Carnival, a possible goal for Serene Majesty.
“We’re going to assess her run shortly and see where she lines up in Brisbane, but there are also fillies races early in the Spring that she’s really suited for,” said Paul Snowden.
“Today she was ridden perfectly by Kerrin, he knows her really well. A win like this coming off the fifth run in her preparation is very pleasing to see,” Snowden said.
As with all winning trainers of Inglis Select Races, the Snowden Racing father and son training partnership take home a set of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars. Antler Luggage was awarded to winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy, and to Neil Werrett, who heads the filly’s ownership group that raced fellow Inglis graduate Black Caviar.
Serene Majesty was bred and sold by Segenhoe Stud at the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, where she was knocked down to Kitchwin Hills for $400,000. Although not able to reach the same heights as the aforementioned Champion, the filly has taken her record to an impressive three wins and four placings from ten starts.
The final chance to secure a yearling in 2016 that is eligible for entry to the lucrative $5 million Inglis Race Series will be at tomorrow’s HTBA Scone Yearling Sale. The first of 206 yearlings will walk through the ring at White Park at 10.30am.
