Rich Rewards For Prized Inglis Juveniles

Two-year-old Inglis graduates showed their brilliance today taking out the headline juvenile races in both New South Wales and Victoria, led by Prized Icon at Royal Randwick, and Valliano at Caulfield.

Prized Icon (More Than Ready x Tropical Affair) backed up easily from his Listed ATC Fernhill Stakes win last weekend on the same track, to flash home in the $500,000 Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes over 1600m under the guidance of Glyn Schofield.

The colt joins fellow Inglis graduates Extreme Choice and Yankee Rose as Group 1 winning juveniles in 2016, delivering James Cummings his first Group 1 victory as a trainer in his own right since his legendary grandfather Bart Cummings passed away in August.

“He is a tough horse this horse and he has loved his training the whole way through and this stable can really train a two-year-old if given the chance,” said Cummings.

“He has had a great week, we have barely done anything with him just plenty of long slow work and he has loved it, he has rewarded us and it’s great to get that Group 1 winner for Gooree and another Group 1 winner for More Than Ready, what a stallion," Cummings said.

Inglis graduates have dominated the Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes in recent years, with Prized Icon joining Pasadena Girl, Onemorenomore, Mentality and Champion Samantha Miss, which went on to win the Group 1 Flight Stakes in the spring.

Today’s win boosted Prized Icon’s consistent record to two wins and five placings from seven starts, and career earnings in excess of $500,000, and rendered him the eighteenth Group 1 winner for Vinery Stud’s resident sire More Than Ready. The colt is also the first horse to complete the Fernhill Stakes/Champagne Stakes double since 1998.

Prized Icon was bred and is raced by prolific thoroughbred nursery Gooree Park Stud. He was offered as a yearling by Widden Stud at the 2015 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale where he was reserved at $300,000.

Gooree Park Stud will offer a number of exceptionally-bred thoroughbreds as part of a reduction at the 2016 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale in the first week of May, including Prized Icon’s half-sister Tarlaquena (Lot 224). Earlier in the day, the winner of the Inglis Premier Race for two-year-olds earlier this season, Valliano (Equiano x Miss Valley Road) was a fitting winner of the $150,000 Vale Phil Sly MRC VOBIS Gold Ingot Plate over 1200m.

Valliano’s dam Miss Valley Road was originally raced by Sly, and his victory today was a fitting tribute to the much-loved industry figure, whose celebrated career as a racehorse owner included success with Inglis graduates Mosheen, Lumosty and Politeness.

After jumping well, Valliano shot to the front of the field, and led the whole way to salute under jockey Damian Lane.

"He was travelling beautifully. I was really confident a long way out and he held them off coming to the line,” said Lane.

The Lindsay Park-trained gelding was a $60,000 purchase from the Swettenham Stud draft at the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for his trainers, and has now notched up over $330,000 in career earnings for his group of owners.

The VOBIS Gold Ingot Plate was one of six VOBIS eligible races held at Caulfield today featuring $1.5 million in prizemoney.
